21 September 2022 at 10:53. It is unlikely that China softened its rhetoric because of a few Western warships that sailed near Taiwan. China will never agree to compromise on reunification with Taiwan, yet China needs to show the world, especially to its democratic allies like India, that it will first give the option of peaceful reunification with Taiwan before progressing to reunification via the military option. My prediction is that the reunification with Taiwan will be done eventually via the military option, yet China will choose the best time frame for her to do it, likely in relation to the geopolitics with Russia. Although if it starts a WWIII, then it is very likely that China will take advantage of it by taking over Taiwan to accomplish the reunification.
