PICTA - Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement
The Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement (PICTA) is a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) among 14 Pacific members, which was signed in 2001. PICTA is part of Pacific Forum Island (PIF), yet not all the members of PIF joined PICTA. Most of the PICTA members are UN members, yet PICTA also includes two Colonies of New Zealand – Niue and the Cook Islands – that were already recognised by other countries (e.g., the USA) as Independent countries, so PICTA gives these Colonies a trade platform for self-sufficiency at the economic level.
