PAFTA Pan-Arab Free Trade Area
The Pan-Arab Free Trade Area (PAFTA) is a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) among 18 Arab members, which was signed in 1997. The formal name is PAFTA as it is mentioned in the WTO's database of FTAs, while in some informal sources, the name of the alliance is ‘Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA)’. PAFTA, as a trade alliance, needs to deal with members in crises, such as Palestine, Lebanon, and Yemen, and recently, even GCC countries. PAFTA also has challenges in staying relevant because some of PAFTA members belong to other competitor trade alliances.
