MERCOSUR - Southern Common Market
The Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) was signed in 1991 and it is considered one of the oldest regional Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) in the world. The alliance of MERCOSUR covers the whole continent of South America, like the alliance of the African Union (AU) that covers the whole continent of Africa, yet MERCOSUR has no joint military force as exists in the African Union (AU) nor a plan for a free movement of people as it is going to be via the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) of the African Union (AU), while MERCOSUR has two membership statuses: Full Member and Associate Member and not only Full Member status as exists in the African Union (AU). However, the Trump’s Trade-War pused many countries and alliances to make trade deals to avoid the negative impacts of Trump’s import tarrifs, which also applies to the recent trade deal between MERCOSUR and the EU.
