08 January 2026 at 08:48. Did Trump violate the USA’s Multilateral Military Defence Treaties (MMDTs) with a 'Clear Commitment' to Defend in the Case of an Attack? The USA has two MMDTs in force with a 'Clear Commitment' to Defend in the Case of an Attack: The Rio Pact that includes the USA and 18 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean (see below) and NATO (see NATO), but as I mentioned in my 2025 GSR (see below), the Rio Pact can be considered as Inactive MMDT, while NATO as Active, yet both of them are in force, so any party to the treaty should be committed to the MMDT unless the party formally withdraws from the treaty. Therefore, if we look at the recent USA attack against Venezuela, then Trump not only violated the UN Charter and international law by kidnapping President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro and his Wife (see my previous comment below), but Trump also violated the Rio Pact, so instead of the USA protecting the countries that are parties to the Rio Pact, then the USA attacked Venezuela that is a party to the Rio Pact, while the USA even threatened to attack Colombia that is also a party to the Rio Pact. Even NATO has not been spared from the violation of Trump. Every day we hear about how Trump threatens Denmark to get Greenland or to suffer an American attack to annex Greenland by force, even though Denmark is a NATO member like the USA, so instead of the USA protecting Denmark against attack, then the USA plans to make an attack against Greenland, which is currently a colony of Denmark. Worse, not only that Trump is going to violate the NATO treaty by planning an attack against Greenland and Danish forces, then Trump even ignores the UN resolution about Decolonialism, namely Granting Independence to Colonies. We are in the 21th Century, so colonialism should be ended for good, but Trump now is making a renascence of Colonialism, Imperialism, and Mercantilism in the style of the 16th century, so What next? Slavery?. Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders under the right for Self-Determination, so Denmark can not force Greenland to continue to be a colony of Denmark unless it is the wish of the Greenlanders, and obviously, the USA can not force the Greenlanders to be a colony of the USA. Only the Greenlanders have the right to choose their destiny.

Acting in an illegal way has become the formal policy of Trump. Violations of the UN Charter, Violations of International Law, Violations of the USA’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) via the ‘Reciprocal Tariff’, Violations of the USA’s Multilateral Military Defence Treaties (MMDTs) (Rio Pact and NATO), and Obstruction of Justice by imposing sanctions against courts – all of these have become the New Normal in the second term of Trump. The ‘Illigal Policy’ of Trump has a big danger for the USA because it leads to a situation that there is no meaning in making treaties or agreements with the USA when the USA regularly violates its commitments. The USA should reverse without any delay the ‘Illigal Policy’ of Trump to save the credibility and integrity of the USA.
