Qualifying Industrial Zones (QIZs): QIZ of Egypt, QIZ of Jordan and QIZ of Palestine via the FTA of USA and Israel
The Qualifying Industrial Zone (QIZ) includes two separate Trilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs): the QIZ of Egypt-USA-Israel and the QIZ of Jordan-USA-Israel, which both of them are based on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the USA and Israel. Still, the QIZ of Palestine can be considered either under the FTA of Israel-USA (Occupied territories) or through the QIZ of Jordan (West Bank). Anyway, all QIZs are based on the rationale that some textile production in Egypt, Jordan and Palestine is considered like the production carried out in Israel, which allows exporting the textiles to the USA based on the FTA between the USA and Israel. That was done to lead to a ‘Warm Peace’ between Israel-Egypet, Israel-Jordan, and Israel-Palestine. However, the ongoing Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation alongside the Israeli genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the West Bank makes the QIZ of Palestine irrelevant, regardless of the ‘Cold Peace’ between Israel-Egypet and Israel-Jordan, which makes the QIZ of Egypt and the QIZ of Jordan much less active than it was planned to be, because the ‘Arab Street’, and in particular, the Arab business communities in Egypt and Jordan are less willing to do business with Israel when Israel has carried out its harsh occupation against the Palestinians. That has led to the situation that over the last two decades, governmental authorities, media outlets and research papers have rarely published data or articles about the QIZs. Nevertheless, when Israel ends its occupation in Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), then it is likely that the QIZs will get a boost in their trade activities.
